Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage session will take place at Head Over Heels Salon.  Head Over Heels Salon is a small, locally owned salon at 6431 Burnet Lane Austin, Tx 78757.  This salon is slightly off the beaten path and has somewhat of a "mom and pop" home-style atmosphere.  Massage is booked by appointment only.  No walk-ins.

Must I be completely undressed?
It is entirely up to you what you want to wear. Typically people prefer ot undress completely or leave on underwear/ boxers/ briefs.  if you prefer to stay fully or partially clothed, please inform your therapist of your preference so that the massage style can be adjusted accordingly.  While you are on the massage table, you will be professionally, properly draped with a sheet and light blanket during the entire session.

Will I be covered during the session?

Yes, you will be professionally, properly draped with a sheet and light blanket during the entire session
to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and front and back of shoulders. Face and scalp may also be included according to your preferences.  Stomach can be massaged on request if you have digestive issues or need diaphragm or ribs released.

What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The lotion also helps hydrate your skin. Your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension and fascia. The massage pressure will gradually be increased to work specific areas of muscular tension. Deeper work may feel uncomfortable to varying degrees depending on the type of tension or injury you may have and your personal comfort level.  Many types of deep work are extremely painful.  If you choose this level of work you should be very cautious that your therapist has extensive training and experience in both the method and structural applications to your specific injury or imbalance.  Not everyone who claims to do deep work or can provide a deep pressure is skilled and trained in those applications.  Pain is your body's way of saying something is wrong.  Deep therapeutic work does not have to be painful to be effective.  You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken.  Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork.  We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable.  Some people choose to talk and have a conversation or discuss certain muscle-related issue, others prefer to be quiet.   If the therapist needs you to move in any way, they will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session.   Always feel free to speak up and request changes if you need different pressure, more work in a certain area, if you are too hot or too cold, etc.   If you have any other questions before, during or after the session, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage?

Every person is different.  Some experience better movement and less tension immediately.  Others have a gradual relaxation or relief from pain that occurs over the next several hours or days. Some people need to go home and sleep for several hours while others feel immediately more energized.  It is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscle tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. It is imperative before you begin your session that the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session.  If you are pregnant, it is important to specify your condition while making the appointment.
